DIY Laundry Detergent

Have you ever sat down and thought about how much you pay in a year just to wash your families clothes? I can tell you its pretty frighting to look at how much a family spends on this every year. I started looking around for ways to save and cut back. Such as going to the cheapest detergent which fades my clothes to a couple years ago where I started making my own laundry detergent. I went through a couple recipes i found on pinterest to find out what works for myself and clothes. I still buy detergent from time to time just if its on sale for a REALLY great deal but I love my home made laundry detergent. It will take about 15 minutes of your time and not gonna lie….some elbow grease. Start looking for coupons before you go out and buy these products. I’ve noticed that borax coupons are rare and only come about every 4 months (maybe over looking them but that’s what I’v noticed). You defiantly want to use coupons and find sales on these items because it will make it even cheaper! Ok lets get started……

Supplies is whats shown above and listed below (all found in laundry isle)

~2 bars of Fels-Naptha (you can use Zote which works just as good)

~1 (3lb) container of Oxyclean (you can use a little less like I did in this batch)

~1 large (4lb) box of Borax

~2 (2lb) baking soda, usually I use Arm and Hammer but I couldn’t find a coupon or sale at time,

~1 (3lb & 7oz) box of Arm and Hammer Super washing soda

Large pot or bowl and then a grater!

What to do

Get your bowl and go ahead and pour Borax, Oxyclean, baking soda, and Washing soda. Mix together really good. Then get out your grater and grate the two bars of Fels-Naptha on the small side of grater. Mix in well with the other ingredients. Viola! Your done! Now I pour all mine in a couple of old laundry detergent bottles that i kept and washed out really well but you can go to Walmart and buy one of those nice glass containers that will hold it all for about $12 (I’m just cheap and nobody sees my laundry room). It takes about 2 tablespoons for one large load. Should last you about 6 months. I really haven’t kept up with how many loads it does. This recipe is safe for all washing machines including HE. Also just a heads up, it is NO SUD! Which means it will not sud up and get foamy. So don’t wait for it to get all foamy. I know we think its not washing good if its not getting all foamy but it really is. Truth of that matter is that its all the extra synthetic chemicals manufactures put in the detergents these days. Check out soap nuts  for more details on all that. Hope this recipe works for all yall. I would love for you to tell me what you think about it?
